Josei is another genre of anime that is opposite of Seinen, catering to older women ages 18-45. While the art style isn’t as cutesy and sometimes simplistic like shoujos, there is usually an emphasis on drama and romance, though far more realistic and explicit than the idolized kind you get from most shoujos. Homosexuality is more common in this genre as well.

Unlike shōjo manga, which is aimed at young girls, Josei manga often portray realistic romance, as opposed to the mostly idealized romance of shōjo manga. They tend to be both more sexually explicit and contain more mature storytelling than shōjo manga, although this is not always the case either….
